Regarding the Champagne Philipponnat Blanc de Blancs 2020
Purity, freshness, and elegance define this Blanc de Blancs from Philipponnat, crafted exclusively from Chardonnay grapes sourced from Premier Cru and Grand Cru vineyards in the villages of Avenay, Vertus, Cramant, and Verzy. A precise and refined cuvée, with a significant portion of the wines aged in oak (47.4%) to impart depth and complexity.
Its pale gold color is followed by a delicate nose of elderflower and vine peach, accented by subtle vanilla notes. The palate, expressive and indulgent, reveals white fruit and an elegant pastry-like quality, leading to a fresh finish with hints of Timut pepper and briny notes. The Extra-Brut dosage of 4.25 g/l preserves all the purity and tension of the Chardonnay.
2020 was a sunny and particularly early vintage, marked by an exceptionally dry summer. The high ripeness of the grapes produced wines with beautiful concentration, while retaining the freshness necessary for their balance. This year is part of Champagne’s 2018–2019–2020 “sun-drenched trilogy.”
Ideal as an aperitif, it pairs beautifully with fish and shellfish—particularly shrimp and lobster—as well as dishes prepared with beurre blanc. We recommend serving it between 6 and 8°C as an aperitif, then between 9 and 11°C with a meal, to reveal its full aromatic richness.
After aging for six years on its lees, this Blanc de Blancs possesses beautiful depth and great complexity. It can be cellared for at least five years and will continue to develop fullness in a cool, dark, and suitable cellar.
