Discover Bollinger Champagne
A Champagne house founded in Aÿ in 1829, Bollinger is one of the appellation's most recognized names, with a style marked by structure, depth and a strong Pinot Noir component. It is still owned by the Bollinger family and produces such emblematic cuvées as Special Cuvée, La Grande Année, R.D. and the Rosé.
The House of Bollinger
Bollinger was founded in Aÿ in 1829 by Athanase de Villermont, Paul Renaudin and Jacques Bollinger and became part of a family history that continues to this day. The company is managed by the descendants of Jacques Bollinger, making it an independent Champagne house. Its identity is built around demanding know-how, prolonged ageing and a quest for stylistic consistency.
Terroir and style of Bollinger champagne
Bollinger's vineyards cover 178 hectares, with Grand Crus in Aÿ, Bouzy, Louvois, Verzenay and Cramant, and Premier Crus in Avenay-Val-d'Or, Mareuil-sur-Aÿ, Mutigny and Bisseuil. 85% of these parcels are classified as Grands Crus and Premiers Crus. The Bollinger signature is based above all on the predominance of Pinot Noir, which gives the wines their characteristic structure, body and vinosity. Since 1829, the house has been vinifying its best vintages in oak barrels, and owns the largest stock of barrels in Champagne, with 4,000 pieces, some of which are over a hundred years old. Another unique feature: Bollinger keeps 700,000 reserve magnums, corked, to blend its cuvées, a palette of aromas unrivalled in Champagne.
Bollinger cuvées
Special Cuvée
The house's flagship cuvée, Special Cuvée is a Brut blended from the three Champagne grape varieties, with a majority of reserve wines and extended cellar aging. Its profile combines richness, finesse and balance, with a clear House signature.
Rosé Bollinger
Le Rosé champagne Bollinger takes the basic house style and adds a more gourmet, fruity dimension. It stands out for its depth, freshness and red fruit notes, while retaining Bollinger's distinctive structure.
La Grande Année
La Grande Année is Bollinger's prestige vintage cuvée. It illustrates Bollinger's plot selection and winemaking expertise, with ageing aimed at complexity and precision.
R.D.
R.D. stands for "Récemment Dégorgé": the cuvée was conceived by Madame Bollinger and launched under this name in 1967. This is a champagne for very long ageing, disgorged late to retain remarkable freshness while offering great aromatic depth.
Vieilles Vignes Françaises
The house's most confidential cuvée: a blanc de noirs made exclusively from Pinot Noir, from the few plots of vines that have resisted phylloxera, crowded and worked by hand. A tribute to champagne as it existed before the 19th century, produced in minute quantities.
Did you know?
It was Christian Bizot, nephew of Lily Bollinger, who made Bollinger the official champagne of James Bond, a relationship that began in Ian Fleming's novels before making its way to the silver screen. Since then, the house has become inseparable from Agent 007, and its limited editions linked to the franchise are among the most sought-after by collectors.
Environmental commitment
Bollinger has a long-standing policy of sustainable viticulture, with HVE certification as early as 2012 and "Sustainable Viticulture in Champagne" certification obtained thereafter. The house has banned herbicides in its vineyards since 2016 and is developing practices such as plant cover, mulching and grazing.
