The House of Moët & Chandon

Founded in 1743 by Claude Moët, a wine merchant from Épernay, the house took on international stature under the impetus of his grandson Jean-Rémy, before taking its definitive name in 1833 with the arrival of Pierre-Gabriel Chandon. Today owned by the LVMH group, Moët & Chandon is the leading producer in the Champagne region, with the largest vineyard in the appellation.

Moët & Chandon Champagne terroir and style

Moët & Chandon's vineyards cover the five main areas of the Champagne region: Montagne de Reims, Côte des Blancs, Vallée de la Marne, Sézanne and Aube. 50% of plots are classified as Grand Cru and 25% as Premier Cru. The three main Champagne grape varieties, Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay, express themselves on chalky soils to give Moët its signature style: notes of white fruit, citrus and white flowers, with hints of brioche and minerality.

  • Moët Brut Impérial Moët & Chandon's emblematic cuvée, blended from the three Champagne grape varieties. Fruity, well-balanced and easy to drink, Moët Impérial is the essential reference for celebrating every moment. Its universal character makes it the most widely available champagne in the world.
  • Rosé Impérial Spontaneous and expressive, Rosé Impérial seduces with its coppery color and aromas of fresh red fruits. More indulgent than the Brut, it is equally at home as an aperitif or at the table, and embodies the bright, festive side of the house.
  • Grand Vintage Made only in the best years, Grand Vintage is the most personal expression of Moët & Chandon expertise. Each vintage captures the unique character of a season, revealing an aromatic depth that only time can offer. A cuvée for connoisseurs in search of the exceptional.
  • Nectar Impérial Rosé: More generous and rounded than its Brut counterparts, Nectar Impérial Rosé is aimed at palates that love gourmet, enveloping bubbles. With its exotic fruit notes and sweet finish, it's ideal for festive occasions and dessert pairings.

Napoléon Bonaparte, a regular customer of the house, gave us the name "Impérial", and according to legend, the tradition of sabering bottles to celebrate a victory.

Moët & Chandon belongs to LVMH (Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton), the world's leading luxury goods group. The company is part of the Wines & Spirits division, alongside Veuve Clicquot, Ruinart, Krug and Dom Pérignon.

Moët & Chandon is based in Épernay, Champagne, where it boasts one of the world's largest cellar networks, with almost 28 kilometers of underground galleries dug into the chalk. The grapes come from its own vineyards, covering over 1,000 hectares in the five main zones of the appellation.

For Moët Impérial Brut and Rosé Impérial, aim for between 8 and 10°C to preserve aromatic finesse and bubbles. Grands Vintages are best served slightly cooler (between 10 and 12°C). Ice cuvées (Ice Impérial and Ice Impérial Rosé) are best served chilled over ice, in a tall glass.

Moët Impérial goes perfectly with sashimi, roast poultry, grilled fish, soft cheeses or a lightly sweetened citrus dessert. Rosé Impérial sublimates fine charcuterie, salmon, snacked tuna, mild Asian cuisine and red fruit desserts. Moderate dosage and a fine bubble make these pairings easy.
