Chassenay d'Arce Champagne

Maison Chassenay d'Arce, a house of winegrowers

Created by 5 pioneers in 1956 in Ville-sur-Arce, it now counts 130 families and 3 generations of winegrowers. The original way of working still exists with the same spirit of cooperation and transmission. The reasoned culture is practiced on this vineyard located in the heart of the Côte des Bar, on 315 hectares and 12 villages spread along the river Arce. The spirit of the House is a family spirit, turned towards the terroir and a requirement shared by all the winegrowers to elaborate champagnes of very high quality.

The terroir of the Maison Chassenay d'Arce: the Côte des Bar

The champagnes of the Maison Chassenay d'Arce are the expression of the terroir of the Côte des Bar and its kimmeridgian soil covered in the past by the sea. The Arce valley is located in the south of the Champagne region. The mildness of the climate, the exposure of the vines and the nature of the soils (here, the vines plunge their roots into stony marl) allow the harvesting of fully ripe fruit at the end of the summer. Chardonnay, pinot meunier and pinot blanc, the ancient grape variety of Champagne, are grown in the vineyard, but the dominant grape variety is pinot noir. This diversity allows us to offer a wide range of wines.

The House of Chassenay d'Arce towards a CSR approach

It is the first Champagne House to be labeled Vignerons Engagés. This approach is based on very demanding specifications, the label is audited by AFNOR every 18 months. It is based on the ISO 26000 standard, internationally recognized by more than 100 countries for sustainable development and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). There are 4 fundamental pillars:

  • guaranteeing quality from the vine to the glass,
  • supporting the territory and the local heritage,
  • act for the environment,
  • to offer a fair price to the consumer and the producer.

To be Vignerons Engagés is to commit to a sustainable development of activities. This is reflected in the actions and investments via a reasoned method of cultivation, controlled energy costs, measures in favor of biodiversity, eco-responsible purchases, controlled energy costs, recycled waste.
