Regarding the Champagne Chartogne-taillet Hors-Série
With Hors Série Champagne, Alexandre Chartogne crosses the historic boundaries of his Merfy domaine to explore one of the most legendary terroirs of the Côte des Blancs: Avize Grand Cru. Beyond its rarity, the cuvée is an exceptional Blanc de Blancs.
The cuvée comes from vines worked without herbicides and ploughed with a horse, and from the superb and generous 2022 harvest.
This 100% Chardonnay Grand Cru, dosed as Extra-Brut (2.20gr/l), reveals a bouquet of great aromatic complexity right from the start. Candied citrus fruit rubs shoulders with white flowers and delicate notes of fresh hazelnut. With aeration, chalky, iodized nuances emerge.
On the palate, Hors Série impresses with its remarkable balance between fullness and tension. The body unfolds with a creamy texture reminiscent of the great white wines of Burgundy, before giving way to a mineral backbone of remarkable precision. Saline and chalky notes extend the tasting experience into an interminable, vibrant and racy finish.
Vinification in wood enriches the wine's texture without ever masking the identity of the terroir.
Bottled in July 2023, disgorged in May 2026, Hors Série from Chartogne-Taillet House is for lovers of mineral sensations. It will be the perfect accompaniment to citrus scallop carpaccio or grilled blue lobster.
