Regarding the Champagne Alfred Gratien Cuvée Paradis Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru 2018
The 2018 Paradis Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru from Maison Alfred Gratien is a 100% Chardonnay Grand Cru of remarkable elegance, combining aromatic richness with crisp freshness. It is aged in small oak barrels without malolactic fermentation to preserve the character of the grapes and the terroir.
After seven years of aging, this champagne reveals a refined character, where freshness, depth, and complexity blend harmoniously. Its dosage of 6 g/l maintains a beautiful balance between purity and richness.
Its lemon-yellow color is enlivened by a fine, generous effervescence. The nose, intense and precise, reveals notes of lemongrass and exotic fruits, Bourbon vanilla, and ginger. Upon aeration, hints of almond and seaweed enrich the bouquet. On the palate, the attack is clean and well-defined. The palate is full-bodied and elegant, carried by a lovely freshness and a mouth-watering acidity. The particularly long finish lingers with chalky minerality and a subtle menthol-like bitterness—the signature of a Blanc de Blancs that is both airy and deep.
The 2018 vintage brings a beautiful richness of texture to this cuvée, highlighted by the Chardonnay’s natural freshness and the precision of its mineral expression. This cuvée is a natural pairing for the finest seafood. It will pair beautifully with scallops, delicately prepared octopus, spider crab, or even a noble fish such as sea bream or scorpionfish. Citrus fruits and mild spices will help highlight its freshness and lovely mineral character.
Ideally served around 12°C in a curved flute to reveal the full complexity of its aromas. Its seven years of aging have already imparted a lovely maturity, while preserving a freshness and structure that will allow it to continue evolving harmoniously in the cellar.
