What is a MOOC?
MOOC: Massive Open Online Course, in other words, an online educational platform. MOOCs are a great alternative to traditional training courses, and for those looking for something to do while they're on lockdown. They allow you to learn at your own pace, anywhere, and are often much cheaper than traditional face-to-face training.
The Champagne MOOC
The champagne-mooc digital platform, available 24/7 and subtitled in 7 languages, is made up of 4 educational courses:
- 1- champagne production, with 365 days of immersion in the vineyards and cellars of the Champagne region
- 2- the terroir of Champagne, unique in the world
- 3- the history and economy of champagne
- 4- diversity, tasting and serving champagne
- A 5th module, available in French and English only (€49), provides access to in-depth videos on subjects such as the taste of light, the mystery of bubbles, actions taken to reduce the carbon footprint, different bottle formats, etc. This final level concludes with an examination to confirm knowledge, with a pass level set at 80%, and the award of a training certificate.
The course initially lasts around 5 hours, but the whole point of the MOOC is to go at your own pace.
Jérémy Cukierman, Director of the Kedge Wine & Spirits Academy, and Master of Wine 2017, accompanies amateurs, oenologists, sommeliers, students, wine merchants or simply wine enthusiasts. With 54 videos, numerous quizzes and interactive content, the site features leading figures in the industry, such as Michelin-starred chefs, oenologists and historians, to guide users through the digital learning process. No prior knowledge is required, apart from an interest in Champagne, of course. The MOOC Champagne offers enough detail to create a real expertise on the subject.
