Champagne DOM PERIGNON

The champagne house Moët et Chandon, founded in 1743, and member of the LVMH group, has a huge quality vineyard. This is the largest vineyard in the Champagne region (550 ha).

Indeed, this champagne house has become the largest player of champagne with over 25 million bottles for sale and famous brands such as Veuve Clicquot, Ruinart and Krug. This is above all this champagne house which offers for sale of its “Cuvée de Prestige” the fabulous Dom Perignon! It is the most prestigious “Cuvée Prestige” in the world! The name Dom Pérignon comes from the famous monk, attorney of the Hautvillers Abbey in 1668.

The Dom Perignon champagne is inspired by the philosophy and spirit that animated the monk which led him to seek the perfection of champagne: rigor and intuition, observation and understanding, knowledge and respect.

Known and recognized worldwide, this brand of champagne is synonymous with absolute excellence! You can discover and buy a wonderful bottle of Dom Perignon champagne in vintage Blanc de Blancs or Rose, but also in magnum size.

Dom Pierre Pérignon was a Benedictine monk born in 1638 and attached to the Abbey of Hautvillers, in the Champagne wine region. He is widely recognized for his fundamental contributions to the development of Champagne wine as we know it today. He perfected techniques such as grape blending, wine clarification and the use of the cork stopper. Although Dom Pérignon did not invent the méthode champenoise, his pioneering work marked a decisive turning point in the quality and renown of Champagne sparkling wines.

Dom Pérignon is considered an absolute benchmark for prestige champagne, thanks to its rigorous quality standards and creative philosophy. Each cuvée is the fruit of an exceptional blend, produced only in the finest vintages. The brand embodies the luxury, excellence and historical heritage of Champagne. Its style is characterized by complex elegance, aromatic finesse and great ageing potential.

Dom Pérignon is a prestige cuvée produced exclusively by Maison Moët & Chandon, one of the world's leading champagne houses, part of the LVMH Group. It is created within the Moët facilities, but is a distinct entity with strong symbolic and commercial value. Although the name "Moët & Chandon" does not appear on the label, Dom Pérignon is one of its flagship brands.

Dom Pérignon champagne is produced in Épernay, in the Champagne wine-growing region, at the heart of the Moët & Chandon cellars. The grapes used come from the region's finest crus, including the Grands Crus and Premier Cru of Hautvillers, where Dom Pierre Pérignon once lived. This location enables us to source exceptional grapes, guaranteeing the consistent quality of our cuvées.

The term "Dom" is a religious title given to Benedictine monks. The name "Dom Pérignon" pays homage to Pierre Pérignon, an emblematic figure in Champagne viticulture, whose legacy is symbolized by this exceptional champagne. The brand's name is steeped in tradition, history and excellence.

At Dom Pérignon, each cuvée is a vintage champagne, which means it is made only from grapes harvested in the same year, selected for their exceptional quality. Unlike other houses that produce non-vintage champagne, Dom Pérignon offers only "vintages". This guarantees a singular aromatic profile and a signature specific to each year.

Dom Pérignon's most emblematic vintages include 1990, renowned for its aromatic power and exceptional longevity. The 1961 vintage is also famous, notably for having been served at the wedding of Prince Charles and Lady Diana. In terms of exceptional quality, we can mention 1996, but also 2002, which was one of the greatest vintages. Dom Perignon 2002 is perfectly balanced, racy and elegant. More recently, the 2008 vintage is considered one of the most accomplished in terms of balance and finesse.

Ageing time varies according to plenitude:

  • Dom Pérignon P1: between 8 and 10 years on lees before disgorgement.
  • P2: around 15 to 20 years.
  • P3: up to 40 years.
This long maturation allows the wine to develop exceptional depth and aromatic richness, while retaining remarkable freshness.

To store a bottle of Dom Pérignon properly, it's essential to :

  • store horizontally, to keep the cork moist,
  • keep it in a cool, dark place, ideally between 10 and 15°C, with a humidity level of 60 to 80%, away from light and vibrations,
  • avoid temperature variations and strong odors.
An electric wine cellar is highly recommended if you don't have suitable premises.

Dom Pérignon's Vintage cuvée is made from a blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes, with the proportion varying according to the vintage.

The rarer and more expensive Cuvée Rosé Vintage contains Pinot Noir still red wine in the blend, giving it notes of intense red fruit, fig, spice and a more tannic texture. It also boasts a unique salmon color and great aging potential.

The Dom Pérignon Luminous cuvée is a special edition featuring a backlit label that lights up in the dark and is activated by a switch at the bottom of the bottle. It is highly prized in the world of nightlife and high-end clubs.

Yes, Dom Pérignon regularly collaborates with artists, creators and designers to produce limited editions. These include editions by Andy Warhol, Jeff Koons, Lady Gaga, David Lynch and Michel Basquiat. These collector's boxes are highly sought-after by connoisseurs and collectors.

For an optimal tasting experience, Dom Pérignon should be served in a stemmed glass, ideally of the tulip type, allowing the champagne to reveal its aromas. It's best to let the glass air out for a few minutes after opening, especially for older vintages, to release the full complexity of the bouquet.

Dom Pérignon champagne is best enjoyed at a temperature of between 8 and 10°C for Vintage cuvées, and between 10 and 12°C for Vintage, P2 and P3 rosé cuvées. An ice bucket is recommended to maintain this temperature throughout the tasting.

To reveal the full aromatic complexity of an exceptional champagne like Dom Pérignon, it's crucial to use the right glasses. Forget classic flutes, which are too narrow and restrict the expression of aromas.

Ideally, use tulip-shaped champagne glasses or, even better, slightly narrower white wine glasses. These shapes allow :

  • good aeration of the wine, essential for older vintages (P2 or P3),
  • concentration of aromas towards the nose,
  • balanced tasting, highlighting the texture and finesse of the bubbles.
Several prestigious brands such as Riedel, Lehmann Glass and Zalto offer glasses specifically designed for prestige champagnes such as Dom Pérignon.

Dom Pérignon goes perfectly with refined dishes such as :

  • seafood (oysters, langoustines, caviar),
  • noble fish (turbot, sea bass, salmon),
  • white meats (veal, truffled poultry),
  • mature cheeses (brie de Meaux, vieux comté),
  • or desserts with little sugar, such as citrus tart (for rosés).

Although the Dom Pérignon brand is produced by Moët & Chandon in Épernay, the Dom Pérignon cellars themselves are not open to the public. However, you can visit Hautvillers Abbey, the historic birthplace of Dom Pierre Pérignon, or book a premium private tour via Moët & Chandon.

The high price of Dom Pérignon can be explained by :

  • rigorous selection of grapes from the best crus,
  • long, controlled ageing,
  • limited production only in exceptional years,
  • the prestige of the brand,
  • and high-end presentation and marketing costs.

The price of a Dom Pérignon varies according to vintage, rarity and stage of plenitude:

  • Recent vintages (e.g. 2012) are affordable (~€200 to €250),
  • Older vintages (e.g. 1996, 1990) or rosés fetch €500 to €1,500,
  • P2 or P3 vintages can exceed €2,000, depending on rarity and state of preservation.
