Since 1750, the Gimonnet family is based in CUIS and cultivates wines. It is undoubtedly from the 1955 cuvée that Pierre Gimonnet & Fils found their unique Chardonnay style characterizing their champagnes ...
Today, the house style is recognizable among thousands ! Nervous wines, very little dosage and minerality. Its style comes from: - A unique and exceptional vineyard - More than 70 years of experience since three generations.
According to the Gimonnet family, the origin of the grapes is the most important element. Since its beginning, the house has always preferred to limit its production to its vineyards planted on the famous Côte des Blancs: Cuis Premier Cru, and Cramant Chouilly, two "grand cru" only planted with the noble Chardonnay grape. With 25 hectares of this land, the house own one of the finest vineyards of the "great whites" area.
The house’s vineyard is envied ... because all the cuvées (including Brut) are "Blanc de Blancs" champagnes of the Côte des Blancs. It’s a very rare characteristic in Champagne! Moreover, the house liberates the “terroir” and limits its yield in leaving the vineyard gaining age naturally: 72% of vines are over 30 years old and 40% over 40 years old.
Please note this rare characteristic in the Champagne region: there is no wine from 1989, 1990, 1992 and 2002. Only a few plots were used in 1996 and 1999. This explains why at Pierre Gimonnet, the culture of vintage is strong and why some rare vintages are successful. Within the range of the 6 champagnes exclusively produced from Great Chardonnays, five of them are vintage. The Pierre Gimonnet house became a reference among the true lovers of the great Chardonnay Champagnes.
