Concernant le Champagne Castelnau Cuvée Hors Catégorie
Cuvée HORS CATEGORIE is so named to demonstrate Champagne de Castelnau's absolute mastery of the heights to which great Champagnes can rise. Every release of a Cuvée HORS CATEGORIE is a limited edition of a unique blend. It won't become a model for any future wines under the same label. Instead, each cuvée will be put together to bring out the best of the very individual components selected from only the most exceptional wines in the cellar.
15 different wines were selected for the blend : a third from 2010, plus two equal thirds from 2009 and 2008, each aged for a year in oak barrique. 55% Pinot Noir 17% Chardonnay 28% Pinot Meunier each bring the best of their natural characteristics, enhanced by the wood aging.
This cuvée celebrates the centennial of the House, and it has been named in honour of the top classification of the legendarily tough mountain passes of the Tour de France biking race.
This first release was named after the Col du Tourmalet – altitude 2115 m.
Only 3 500 bottles were made !
